Progress Over Perfection

Many runners fall into the trap of seeking perfection.

The perfect pace. The perfect race. The perfect training cycle.

But perfection doesn’t exist.

What does exist is progress.

Some weeks you’ll hit every planned session. Other weeks life gets in the way. Family commitments, work pressures, illness, and unexpected challenges can disrupt even the best-laid training plans.

The important thing is not to strive for perfection but to keep moving forward.

A slower run is still a run.

A shorter run is still a run.

A difficult run that teaches resilience may be more valuable than an easy run that feels effortless.

At Sleaford Striders, we see incredible examples of progress every week. Members building confidence. Runners returning after injury. New friendships forming through shared miles.

None of these achievements happen overnight.

Progress is built through hundreds of small decisions: putting on your trainers, turning up to training, supporting fellow runners, and believing in yourself when things get tough.

Focus on becoming a little stronger than yesterday, not perfect tomorrow.

That’s where real success lives.
